Dr. Lorie C. Woods has been practicing optometry for over 30 years. She and her husband and optician, Rick founded Enterprise Optical in 1986. After completing her B.A. in English and History from Mississippi University for Women, she went on to earn a double Master’s Degree in English Education and the Teaching of Reading, and then received her Doctorate of Optometry from University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. There, she found her love of general optometry, truly enjoying helping her patients to have the best eyesight possible.
Growing up in the small town of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, her father was an optometrist in their hometown, while her mother was an English teacher at the school she attended. She and her two sisters were students of their mother for 7th grade English
Dr. Woods was debating between the study of optometry and teaching for several years before starting optometry school. “After teaching school for 6 years I realized that education was not my forte, and that the field of optometry was where I belonged. I love everything about my profession!” Dr. Woods enjoys building long-term relationships with her patients while focusing on the fastest and best results for each patient.
When not in the office, Dr. Woods enjoys reading and collecting books. “I have also become an avid Kindle reader. In recent years, I have discovered garage sales and most Saturdays you will find me out and about at local garage sales. I also sell many of my finds on Ebay. I enjoy baking and cooking when I have time. Also, we have fallen in love with extreme northeastern Ohio. We spend time every summer and fall on the shores of The Great Lakes.” says Dr. Woods. She also loves spending time with her husband of 43 years, Rick, and their two married daughters and their families, and especially her grandchildren. “I love Alabama and the people here,” comments Dr. Woods, “It is important to me that my patients and I have good communication and that they always feel at ease when they are with me. I am completely dedicated to my patient’s vision, eye health and their overall wellbeing.”
