Everyone, young kids and adults alike, gets excited about airplanes, and the Army Aviation Museum in Ozark, AL, has a fantastic collection of Army planes, helicopters and unmanned aircraft to tour. When October comes around, don’t miss the annual Pitts aircraft show held at Blackwell Airfield in Ozark.
Another site worth visiting is the Carillon and Bell Tower, located close to the Ozark Area Chamber of Commerce. This tower was constructed to honor all civilian and military personnel who served at Fort Rucker. And as long as we’re discussing military monuments, make a stop at the unique Block House, located just south of Ozark. This 1814 structure was the first public building in the region, constructed from logs by Jackson’s army.
If art and culture are more your passion than military history, downtown Ozark offers you the Dowling Museum/Ann Rudd Art Center. Rotating exhibits of art and permanent displays of artsy vintage clothing are housed within a historic 1870s building. Art lessons are also offered at this interactive venue. Also held yearly in downtown Ozark is the lively Claybank Jamboree Arts & Crafts Festival, filled with food vendors, creative shows, music, and crafts for sale.
