About Luverne, AL

Where to Eat in Luverne, AL

We are located conveniently on Forest Avenue, fortunate to be surrounded by a number of great places to eat. If you’re craving good ‘ole Southern food, head down the block from Family Eye & Laserto the Chicken Shack to enjoy the best fried chicken fingers around. For a juicy hamburger steak, continue a bit further down the street to Preston’s Steak and Grill.

Are you in the mood for more ethnic fare? Switch directions on Forest Avenue and a short journey will bring you to the New China Restaurant and Monarcas Mexican Restaurant. For dessert, your best bet is Luverne’s classic diner and ice cream shoppe, Mainstreet Sweets, a family-owned business with awesome 1950s décor.

Local Luverne Heritage

This community was one of many townships that were founded in response to railroad construction during the late 19th century. Although the residents are now proud to be known as “The Friendliest City in the South”, that wasn’t the case back in 1940 – when Luverne was the site of a famous lynching. Yet, more recent history is truly much friendlier.

To view some of the local lore, we encourage you to visit the Luverne History Center, which features the Luverne Automobile Company that was later renamed the Luverne Fire Apparatus Company. In line with the name, this business became famous for its fire trucks. Another exhibition of memorabilia worth seeing at the History Center is their eclectic collection of nutcrackers.

Remember to leave time for your annual eye exam. You need excellent vision to live life to its fullest and make the most of all Luverne, AL, has to offer!
